Sunderland Vs Swansea City: Player Ratings

After every game, home or away, we dish out some ratings to the players and review how we feel they performed. Check out what we made of tonight's game against Swansea City here.

Stu Forster

Simon Mignolet - 6

For all Swansea's dominance in possession, the Belgian stopper was rarely called into any real action. A quiet night between the sticks - but another clean sheet is encouraging. That's 28 in 76 Premier League games for Mignolet.

Craig Gardner - 5

Hasty in defence and wasteful in attack. Spurned numerous good crossing opportunities having reached the Swansea byline.

Jack Colback - 6

Quiet. Infuriated plenty at times with his unwillingness to move forward when space presented itself. Adept defensively, though.

John O'Shea - 6

One of those games where his distribution left plenty to be desired but he was largely in control when defending. He and Bramble snuffed out most of the visitors' attacks with relative ease.

Titus Bramble - 8

Had been stoic prior to the closing stages, but his late, diving block on Danny Graham confirmed him as the home side's best player. Offered up plenty of interceptions that cut short visiting attacks, and looked at ease alongside O'Shea. Will be looking to keep Kader Mangane on the bench in coming weeks.

Alfred N'Diaye - 5

Struggled to get going, and was removed soon after the hour mark. In contrast to his swashbuckling display at Wigan, the new man gave the ball away too easily and found it difficult to cope with the guile of Britton and De Guzman.

David Vaughan - 6

Sunderland's most involved player of the evening, but the attacking verve he has offered in recent weeks was sorely lacking. Limited himself to recycling possession, as opposed to looking to force an opening.

Seb Larsson - 7

Played in a higher role than his fellow central midfielders, looking to stop the visitors passing the ball out from the back (especially at goal kicks), and coped well. Offered a half-decent threat on set-pieces, and was full of running, particularly at the end when Sunderland were outnumbered in the middle. Could have done with supporting Fletcher more, though.

Adam Johnson - 5

Showed all the annoying traits of a typical winger. Skipped wonderfully past Dwight Tiendalli in the first half - drawing both a foul and a yellow card for the Swansea right-back - before pretty much vanishing from the game.

Stephane Sessegnon - 7

Flickered from good to bad while out wide; shone in the middle in the second half. Skipped past opposing players almost at will during one fifteen minute segment of the game, and looked lively - albeit from a position that proved too deep to cause any great threat.

Steven Fletcher - 6

A frustrating evening for him. Won a hefty proportion of his aerial battles (11 from 19) but, without any real support from his midfielders, his efforts came to nought.

James McClean - 6

Full of running, as ever, but end product left plenty to be desired.

Connor Wickham - 6

Scarcely given much time to make an impression, but showed some neat hold-up play towards the end.

Man Of The Match - Titus Bramble

With Sunderland struggling to create anything of note with the ball, this award was always likely to head the way of a defender. For all his faults, Bramble was excellent this evening, barely putting a foot wrong and maintaining concentration - something he has often struggled with. His late block ensured the Black Cats salvaged a point from a disappointing performance.
