David Meyler's move to Hull city is on the verge of completion after Tigers gaffer Steve Bruce told local press in the Humberside region that a fee has been agreed following his sides 0-0 draw with Blackpool on New Years Day;
We've agreed a deal with Sunderland and now we'll just try to get the personal terms sorted with the player over the next 24 to 48 hours.
It's a good sum of money and fair play to the owners again.
It's now likely that Meyler's deal will be completed as personal terms are not likely to be a stumbling block for them, and Meyler himself has expressed how pleased he is to be part of the set-up at the KC Stadium.
Meyler's departure could be quite telling from our side though. Martin O'Neill did not invoke the option to recall him over the Christmas period after declaring he was likely to do so, and with Lee Cattermole unlikely to be available for selection until February, it would appear that perhaps O'Neill has someone in mind to step in and fill the void quite quickly as we're down to just the three central midfield options currently.
Here's hoping he does anyway, and of course we wish Meyler well at Hull City. Ultimately he was quite a limited player who will do very well at that level, or even in the lower Premier League should the tigers gain promotion this season, and isn't a huge loss for us.
The fee received, if believed that it's around the previously reported £1.5m mark, is a fair one for his talents.Irish midfield man David Meyler is poised to join Hull City after it was confirmed that they agreed a fee with Sunderland, thought to be in the region of £1.5m
