After much speculation that Ji Dong-Won's days on Wearside are numbered, he has finally left and joined FC Augsburg on loan for the remainder of the season.
In the past week Martin O'Neill confirmed that he was looking to loan rather than sell Ji to someone as he does believe that the striker has talent, but is struggling with the physical aspect of the game. Now, a move to the side currently joint bottom of the Bundesliga should see him get plenty of games.
Speaking to the side's official website, Augsburg's Sporting Director and former German international Stefan Reuter said;
It's good that the transfer worked out before the start of training. Ji Dong-Won can be used in several positions.
It will be great for him to get games, and we can all try and keep an eye on his progress with the Bundesliga shows on ESPN and ITV here in the UK.
Hopefully he comes back a better player, but I can only see this leading to a permanent move if we're entirely honest with ourselves. As much as he provided us with a magical moment against Manchester City nearly a year ago today, and the fact you can see he's got some talent there, he hasn't really progressed very well on any other level since arriving at the club in 2011.
