Reports: Another Striker Nearing Exit Door

Fraizer Campbell looks set to join Cardiff City as Martin O'Neill trims the fat from an already lean squad.

Sunderland striker Fraizer Campbell looks set to join Championship high-flyers Cardiff City on a permanent deal.

It has long been speculated that Campbell would be headed toward the exit door sooner rather than later, and things were made to look even quicker when yesterday defender Matt Kilgallon wised Campbell luck on his move to Cardiff via his Instagram account.

Since then speculation has ramped up that Campbell will be headed to South Wales, with the deal set to be done at around the £600k mark. That seems extraordinarily cheap, but it's worth remembering that Campbell is out of contract at the end of the season, so it's better than nothing for a player not in Martin O'Neill's plans.

It also adds further strength to the rumours that Swansea City striker Danny Graham's projected move to the club is closer than expected. According to Sky Sports a bid was placed yesterday and regardless of Graham's roots and ties, bringing him at the expense of Campbell represents an upgrade to the squad.

Campbell has always proved to be a very likable person, but ultimately he is a limited player. His impact from the bench has been minimal this season and he hasn't particularly done enough to warrant a starting berth at all.

Campbell scored some great goals. Notably one against Norwich City at home last season, but unfortunately his strikes were few and far between with him leaving the club (if as expected) this week with a final tally of 10 goals in 72 matches.
