Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill opted to leave Alfred N'Diaye on the bench as he was boosted by the return to fitness of John O'Shea for today's game.
Titus Bramble comes in as the preferred partner for O'Shea, with Matt Kilgallon dropping to the bench. Jack Colback will start in defence while it's David Vaughan - who impressed against Bolton - who keeps N'Diaye out the starting eleven.
Stephane Sessegnon returns to partner Steven Fletcher, meaning Connor Wickham once again has to make do with a place on the bench.
