In last week's Gossip round-up, we genuinely had hopes that we'd have a signing to mention this week, but it has been another week of frustration for fans. Negotiations with Wolves for top target Steven Fletcher have dragged on - or 'stalled' according to Martin O'Neill - but that hasn't stopped more names being thrown into the fray by the media and press.

Lets catch up with the latest names to have been linked with the club.

So three new names to the list, taking us to 60 in total. Not a bad effort by the assorted media considering there are 4 weeks left of the window! The Fletcher pursuit is sure to continue and, as we reported, reports in Italy are strongly linking Sunderland with Manchester City's John Guidetti. But what about new and shiny names?

The pattern of predominantly domestic players complimented with a sprinkling of more obscure foreign-based names has continued this week, with the most eye-catching new name to the list being that of Peter Odemwingie. The Sun has reported that Sunderland are battling with Fulham for the Nigerian's signature.

A fee of £4.5m has been suggested, and I'd suspect that most of us would consider it worth the money just to rid him of that desperately annoying habit he has of playing a blinder at our expense. That said, at the age of 31 and likely to be looking for one final big pay-day, you do have to wonder whether Odemwingie fits the bill for Sunderland this summer.

It should be noted that Midlands-based journalists have insisted that WBA have received no bids from any English clubs for Odemwingie. Nevertheless, it is probably one worth following.

The name of Scott Sinclair was thrown out there by Sky Tyne and Wear and does appear to be an O'Neill-esq target - young, British, quick, and direct. The Swansea man is part of the Team GB Olympic squad at the moment, but is out of contract next summer and whilst that remains the case he is likely to have admirers courting his signature.

Later on in the week, Sky Tyne and Wear also suggested there was some interest in Hannover's brilliantly named forward Didier Ya Konan. This was certainly a link that caught our eye. The 28-year-old forward is an explosive and exciting player in a similar mold to Stephane Sessegnon. Last April, Sky Sports reported that there was substantial Premier League interest in Ya Konan, with one unnamed club in particular very serious, so it could be one to keep an eye on.

Oh, and James Collins signed for West Ham and Tongo Hamed Doumbia joined Wolves on loan, so scratch those ones off the list, but Stephen N'Zonzi's rumoured move to Sevilla has so-far failed to materialize.

Anyway... I am SURE that next week we'll have some actual signings to talk about. Honestly I am*.

See you next week.
