Connor Wickham will be on international duty with England next week.

Sunderland striker Connor Wickham has been called up by England's Under-21 manager Stuart Pearce for the forthcoming games against Azerbaijan and Norway.

The Young Lions (that would be cubs wouldn't it?) travel to Baku to take on the Azerbaijani's on Thursday 6th September with a 4pm kick off before coming back and taking on Norwary in Chesterfield on Monday 10th September.

Wickham enjoyed a solid preseason with us but has yet to figure in the first team with any real meaning, and chances are now likely to become even thinner with the arrivals of Steven Fletcher and Louis Saha. O'Neill does seem to fancy the striker though, and is reluctant to let him leave permanently, although a loan could have happened by the time those games roll around.

Also in the England squad are former Sunderland players Jordan Henderson and Martyn Waghorn. Reported target, Spurs' Danny Rose is also in the squad if anyone fancies watching and taking on a little bit of scouting.
