It seems to have been put on the backburner while we all got very excited about Steven Fletcher and Adam Johnson, but there was a big reminder that Kieran Richardson is near the exit door last night when he was omitted from the side who beat Morecambe 2-0.
Following the game, Martin O'Neill revealed that a bid for the left-back has been accepted;
A club has made an offer for him today and we have accepted that.
It gives Kieran the opportunity to find out for himself. If it doesn't materialise and he comes back, I'll still be pleased, but it's a position we might have to go and have a look at.
Kieran wanted to pursue it and look at it and we accepted the offer from Fulham very late yesterday afternoon.
Fulham have of late appear to have been the most interested in acquiring his services following failed attempts from West Ham United and Reading to lure the former England international this summer. The move fits us and fits Richardson's desire to move back south.
On the other hand, it means it's likely a left back will be bought before the close of the transfer window on Friday night. Rumours of a move for Stephen Warnock have gone incredibly cold, and for all intents and purposes it seems that Croatian fullback Ivan Strinic is our top target.
So long as someone is brought in to replace him, Kieran won't be missed too much. He's an excellent player and Fulham fans (if he goes, there's still a chance) should be very happy with him, just as we were with his high-level performances. However you have to move on one day, and if that's with Strinic or maybe a Martin Olsson then we're more than happy with that too.
