After speculation the other week that Sunderland were to lineup an overseas friendly soon, possibly in a short-hop destination such as Germany or Holland, it has been confirmed today that the club will take on Helsingborgs IF on Saturday August 4th.
Manager of the Swedish side, Age Hareide, said of the game which will be played at the Olympia in little under ten days time;
It's good for us to play against international opposition. Players will get experience it, which is important in the long run, and especially given that we have qualified for the Champions League. It's excellent to have such a match.
The obvious tie to the game is Swedish international Seb Larsson, currently on our books, however there are more connections with the club - former midfielder Stefan Schwarz is currently the assistant manager at the club.
This should be the final friendly of the summer as the schedule from here on out looks quite packed.
