Reports: Michael Turner Having Medical At Norwich City

Michael Turner could be headed to Norwich City in the very near future.

Reports emerged earlier this morning about Michael Turner interesting Norwich City. Like every transfer rumour going around at the minute, we chose to watch from afar and take it with a pinch of salt.

It now appears that the move could be very much on after Sky Sports and multiple local journalists took to Twitter to announce the news that the lanky defender was headed down to East Anglia for a medical as we speak.

I have to say that my first reaction is to be a little disappointed. With Wes Brown injured and likely to be injured again at some stage, Turner should be first choice alongside John O'Shea in the middle of the defence. Last season he did very well indeed, out-shining nearly all his defensive teammates on a statistical front.

Turner however is in the final year of his contract. Usually cause for selling a player who's unlikely to stay, although of defenders in their final year, surely Matt Kilgallon and Titus Bramble should be closer to the exit door than Turner, who after a lengthy run in the side last year looked to be nearing the top of his game.

Of course we must remember though - you can only sell if there's a buyer, and interest in Bramble and Kilgallon is likely to be significantly less than that for Turner.

One can only hope that at this stage those two are also nearing the exit. It could yet open the door for Aston Villa's James Collins to come in, as well as opening the door for Louis Laing or John Egan to make a significant step up - Martin O'Neill said this morning that he really likes the look of two youngsters, perhaps it was this defensive duo?

It remains to be seen what sort of fee we can expect for Turner, but we'll have more in the story as it comes out.
