With it becoming more and more clear his future lies away from Wearside, Asamoah Gyan has openly talked about a potential move to United Arab Emirates Pro-League side Al-Ain, where the striker spent last season on loan.
Speaking ahead of a charity game involving footballers versus celebrities (where else would he be, obviously) held in Kumasi, Ghana this week, Gyan had this to say about Al-Ain;
Al-Ain have shown an interest [in signing me permanently]. I am also interested in staying. I like the place and my family are also in love with the place.
Gyan did well over there, as expected give the standard of player he is, and the standard of the league, scoring 19 goals and finishing as the league's top scorer. However his future has remained slightly cloudy.
It was largely expected that Gyan would return to Sunderland following his loan spell, and a bidding war would open up for his services, however Al-Ain appear to have been the only consistent contender for his signature after rumours that FC Rostov and Galatasaray were also interested in his services.
Previously Al-Ain coach Cosmin Olaroiu claimed he expected Gyan to stay in the Middle East, stating;
From what I know, Asamoah will continue to play with Al Ain next season.
With both parties seeming happy for the 26-year old to continue at the club, all that remains is the fee. We are supposedly looking for at least our money back, which would strike a deal at around £13m. Following a record £6m loan fee, Al-Ain are said to be looking for that to be knocked off the price and a stand-off has ensued.
One things for sure though, it would appear Gyan's days are numbered on Wearside, and a move should happen sooner rather than later.
