The Roker Roundup: April 24th 2012 - Another Day, Another Striker Linked

News, News, News I Just Can't Say No.
News, News, News I Just Can't Say No.

Back once again, it's the Roker Roundup to present to you lucky devils a little wrap up of everything that's been happening in the world of our beloved Sunderland AFC today.

Today of course being April 24th, and on this day in SAFC history, Gordon Armstrong made his debut for the club away at West Bromwich Albion. Armstrong, a club legend, played for us for 12 years before spending an extended period at Burnley. Gordon scored a bullet header in the FA Cup Quarterfinal with Chelsea in 1992 too. He's now an agent, and his son James plays for our academy side.

Back to modern day matters though, here's today's news...

The Journal report that if we're going to get in-demand Wolves striker Steven Fletcher, we're going to have to cough up a tidy sum, possibly in the region of £10m. Seems a bit pricey to me - CLICK HERE

O'Neill is looking at strikers though. He's admitted as much in a chat with Sky Sports, during which he also told them nothing has been resolved when it comes to Nicklas Bendtner too - CLICK HERE

Perhaps we'll make a move for Bolton Wanderers big lad, Kevin Davies. We were supposed to be looking at him in January, and were close, but you'd have to imagine that this was more out of desperation that anything else, and with a full summer to scour the world for talent, we'll look further than Bolton - CLICK HERE

Continuing the striker stalking, how about a move for Huddersfield Town star Jordan Rhodes? A phenomenal talent, with a good scoring record and at 6'2 could be "O'Neill's Type" of player. I'm just speculating here, but according to the paper we were at Huddersfield the other week to watch someone - CLICK HERE

On to the midfield, and we'll start with the ugly. Remember Liam Noble? Nope, us neither, but the little mite seems to have a real bee in his bonnet about SAFC, and has decided to call us "sh*t club with sh*t fans"... nice way to repay the club who trained you up. Enjoy your trip to Yeovil next season Liam, we'll be at Old Trafford. For the full story - CLICK HERE

In more mundane midfielder news, Jack Colback has been singing the praises of David Meyler, and reckons that the Irishman deserves a chance in the side as the season comes to a close - CLICK HERE

Our search for young talent has extended across the pond as there's a little article-come-profile on the clubs official website of SAAC, who have partnered with us to help nurture youngsters in Canada - CLICK HERE
