Welcome back to a Monday edition of The Roker Roundup. We've been reading the news, so you don't have to bother spending hours on end trawling NewsNow or somewhere else for it.
Anyway, today is of course April 16th, and on this day in SAFC history, way back in 1910, we traveled to to play Manchester United away. The teams train however was delayed by fourty minutes meaning the players arrived in the North West late, missed their bus to the ground and ran to the stadium for a delayed kick-off. We lost 2-0. No wonder after running all that way.
Anyway, back to a the modern era, and here's what's been happening in the Sunderland world today...
Martin O'Neill has won the praise of Ellis Short in a rare public outing for the quiet American. He's delighted with Martin's progress, and will be doing everything he can to make sure next year is a season to remember as we build on this one - CLICK HERE
It's been speculated by The People, and Coventry Mad, that Kieren Westwood and Connor Wickham could be loaned out. Next season I'd imagine, however I think it would be an odd move, and one I personally wouldn't be looking to make - CLICK HERE
The boss has called for everyone to start helping out James McClean as the winger now looks to have become a marked man. It would certainly explain his recent (minor) downturn in form - CLICK HERE
Cristian Riveros, remember him? Well he's currently on loan at Kayserispor in Turkey, and will be making the move a permanent one next week, according to the reliable Scott Wilson in the Echo. As it happens, I think Riveros was out of contract in the summer anyway - CLICK HERE
Despite a minor set-back against Wolves this weekend, Simon Mignolet is still targeting a top eight finish for us this season. That would be a monumental effort, and it's good to see us aiming high, but I think just generally top ten would be nice enough - CLICK HERE
This one's quite strange. This Is Futbol seem to be aware that we're in need of a goalscorer, then go on to suggest that, and indeed make the case for, signing Yakubu would be the answer to our problems. Yes he gets goals, or he has this season, but could you see him in the hardworking side O'Neill has created? - CLICK HERE
In what might be the crappest, laziest rumour so far, the Mirror's top correspondent, "Football Spy" tells us that we're looking to sign Karl Henry from Wolves, after being impressed with him last weekend. No. Just a big fat no thanks - CLICK HERE
