The Roker Roundup: February 29th 2012 - SuperKev Talks Derbies, McClean Praise Continues

You spin me right roundup, baby right roundup, like a record baby right roundup, roundup. roundup.
You spin me right roundup, baby right roundup, like a record baby right roundup, roundup. roundup.

Well, we're half-way through the week, what's your nerve level like? Are we still feeling ok? Well I do hope so, there's still a few days to go to the big one.

Anyway, this is The Roker Roundup - the place to find anything that's worth reading concerning SAFC today.

Today of course being the 29th of February. It's a leap year, and it's former SAFC reserve keeper Mike Pollit's birthday. He'll be 40, or if we're getting technical then he'll be 10. Not much happened on this day in history, although in 1963 we drew 3-3 with Manchester United, Johnny Crossan bagging a brace.

So let's not think about that too much and get up to date. Here's your nightly news...

Hopes of landing Nicklas Bendtner on a permanent deal seem to be becoming slimmer and slimmer as the Danish striker has told Reuters he'd be open to a move to Russia in the summer. I suppose over there he'd be seen as a pretty big fish, and make plenty of money, which is all he's probably fussed about - CLICK HERE

Craig Gardner, the Player of the Month on this very site has been in impressive form off the pitch too as he spoke to The Shields Gazette. Referring to the derby earlier in the season, and indeed the management style of Steve Bruce, he said that on the day, basically nobody knew what they were supposed to be doing - CLICK HERE

The praise for James McClean keeps on coming. This time both Robbie Keane, and Petr Cech (who he could face tonight) have been saying how well he's adapted to the Premier League, and he's now a player teams have to guard against - CLICK HERE

The game against Blackburn Rovers was rearranged yesterday because of our impressive FA Cup run, and now it's been revealed that the game against Fulham at Craven Cottage has been rearranged too for May 6th. Obviously this could change again if we're in the cup final the day before, so don't book your trains yet - CLICK HERE

There's a great interview with Kevin Phillips in today's Journal, that's well worthy of your ten minutes. Super Kev has been chatting about all things derby related, making his predictions and indeed any potential return to the Stadium Of Light... Would you take him back? I might you know. Anyway, give the interview a read, it's great - CLICK HERE

Jordan Henderson has been in the press too. Shortly after winning the Carling Cup with Liverpool, he's been talking about Connor Wickham, stating that while he's going through a bit of a rough patch with injuries and a loss of form, Jordan is sure that Connor will come good - CLICK HERE

Henderson wasn't finished either, going on to talk about Fraizer Campbell's unexpected England call, making all the right noises and saying it's fully deserved, and couldn't have happened to a nicer guy - CLICK HERE

There's a quite entertaining article on the Four Four Two website concerning our deposed manager Steve Bruce, and his inability to explain the rules of football to a child. It's clearly tongue-in-cheek, but part of it sounds eerily true. Well worth a read anyway - CLICK HERE

Sportsmail Reporter has been at it again, this time cobbling together quite literally half a dozen words to say that Fraizer Campbell would like to stay at the club. Jolly good eh? - CLICK HERE
