Five Sunderland Stars Called By Ireland, Including Lynden Gooch

Five Sunderland players have been called into Ireland squads at various levels for next week's round of friendlies, including a call up for youth team attacker Lynden Gooch.

Giovanni Trapattoni has named his squad for next weeks home friendly against Greece at the Aviva Stadium, and there are calls for four Sunderland players in the national squad.

Keiren Westwood will look to continue to keep his place as the side's number one 'keeper after Shay Given's retirement, and also look to bounce back from a drubbing by Germany last time out at home.

There are also calls for John O'Shea and James McClean. Perhaps a surprise for both after a loss of form slightly for both players in recent weeks, but a break way from Wearside might be just the tonic to help them get back on form.

David Meyler - now on loan at Hull City - has also been called into the national set-up.

The fifth member is youth team attacker Lynden Gooch, who has been called into the Irish Under-18 squad for their two games against Switzerland next week. The youth side will travel to Europe, train in Switzerland and play the Under-18 team twice in three days.

Gooch was born in the USA, however qualifies for Ireland through his mother.
