Danny Welbeck Called Up To England Squad

Well done on getting something right Fabio!
Well done on getting something right Fabio!

Well well well. Remember back in January when we made predictions for 2011? One of them being that Danny Welbeck would be an England International before the end of the season? Well he's one step closer after a very late call up to Fabio Capello's squad this morning.

Tottenham's Aaron Lennon has withdrawn alongside many others, allowing Welbeck the chance.

Liverpool's Andy Carroll is expected to lead the line with former SAFC man Darren Bent, but there's every chance Welbeck could see some action.

England would be wise to do so against Ghana tonight, as giving him even 5 minutes would ensure he's an England player for the rest of his life.

It's very much deserved for Danny, as he's been in fantastic form prior to his injury, and offers things not many other England strikers do. Not specifically a poacher like Bent, nor a target man like Carroll. He can do it all.

I know we at Roker Report made a plea the other week for him to choose Ghana over England, however Danny has made his choice, and we'll stick by him with it.

That brings the total of FOUR Sunderland players potentially on show tonight. Welbeck likely to be on the bench, whilst Ghana expect John Mensah, Asamoah Gyan and Sulley Muntari all to start in tonight exhibition game in front of a sell-out Wembley crowd.

Now then Fabio, all you have to do is pop up here more often and get Jordan Henderson & Lee Cattermole involved with the England set-up. However I'll give you some lee-way having added Danny to the mix.

Should be a great game. I don't think I've ever had so much interest in an England friendly before!
