Craig Gordon Doesn't Require Surgery

Steve Bruce was given a massive boost by the news Craig Gordon will not require surgery on his injured knee.

The 28 year old Scot had flown to Sweden for a check up with a leading specialist in the field, and was told the best course of action would be to instead opt for an intensive recuperation programme.

Steve Bruce told SAFC.com "He has been given a course of exercises and we'll see how he responds. This is a big time for Craig, and we wish him the best of luck."

This news is a big boost for the club, but temper expectations as it looks as though Simon Mignolet will continue in goal for the foreseeable future, with Gordon warming the bench.

Gordon is expected to follow the regime intently for the next month, before flying out to Sweden once again for reassessment.

Third choice goalkeeper Trevor Carson will be allowed to continue his development at Lincoln City where he is currently on loan, and is the holder of the number one shirt.
