Sunderland have secured their second signing of the summer by snapping up Wigan midfielder Jordi Gomez.
The 29-year-old Spaniard has signed a three-year deal and will officially join the club on a free transfer when his Latics contract expires on July 1st.
Gomez is not a glamour signing by any means but would appear to be a very good fit. Having started his career in the Barcelona academy, he is well-educated in the kind of passing possession-based football that Gus Poyet prefers his teams to play and has worked very well under a similar philosophy with Roberto Martinez in the Premier league before.
On first glance, it looks to be a very solid piece of business for a player who is very skilled when receiving the ball under pressure. It fits quite nicely.
