Gus Poyet will make Brighton winger Will Buckley a priority summer target regardless of the division his side is playing in, according to today's Journal.
The Uruguayan took Buckley to the Amex Stadium during his tenure on the south coast, and realistically the 24-year-old would be seen as a replacement for Adam Johnson, who looks likely to leave if when the drop is confirmed.
There is a more comprehensive transfer round-up from Mark Douglas in the article, including an update on Phil Bardsley's contractual situation, so it's well worth popping over and having a look.
Elsewhere, the Sunderland Echo are reporting that Newcastle are interested in taking Jack Colback in the summer when he is out of contract.
There have been rumours about this one for a couple weeks now, and it's certainly a deal you could see being possible. Whether the Echo are acknowledging those rumours or have something more concrete behind it, I'm not sure. It's worth pointing out, though, and to the delight of Football Manager players everywhere, that technically Colback can't speak to any other English club until the final month of his existing deal. Technically.
Meanwhile, Poyet has revealed that John O'Shea was offered a full explanation for him being dropped against Spurs, adding:
People think I woke up in the morning, had a dream and thought I'd change John and replace him with Carlos Cuellar.
Yes, I worry that people are starting to think that about Poyet's selection policy in general at the moment. It has looked a little scatter-gun of late and when you don't back it up with results, I suppose you have to take the criticism.
Oh, and Steven Fetcher might be back for the last three games of the season, if we are very lucky or very unlucky, depending on your inclination for patience.
