After starring for Sunderland's development squad, Liam Agnew was sent out on-loan to Skrill North side Boston United earlier in the season to gain valuable first team experience. Agnew has impressed at the Lincolnshire based side and was named man of the match in 2-0 win over Gloucester City at the weekend after scoring a spectacular goal.
Speaking after the game, the academy product revealed he had signed a new contract with his home-town club;
It's been hard work. I'd like to think I've deserved it [the contract],
But it's important not to dwell on it. It's important to knuckle down for the next two years and earn another contract.
With Sunderland seemingly destined for the Championship, Agnew, like many other members of the development squad, may find himself nearer the first team picture next season as the club look to rebuild ahead of a promotion push.
Agnew was particularly happy about the goal he scored on Saturday;
I've been working on my long-range shooting in training. It was particularly pleasing that it was on my left foot.

Agnew has been joined at Boston United by Liam Marrs, David Ferguson and Joel Dixon as part of an unofficial link-up between the two sides, although Marrs has since been released and Ferguson has been ruled out for the season after picking up an injury.
