I'm sure every Tom, Dick and Harry is writing blogs about the capital one cup final but I think it's important that I say my piece.
I believe that we played a great tactical game and Poyet played a brilliant style. He made the decision that it would be pointless to go all out attack and try and beat City at there own game, he decided that we should try and exploit them when they were at there weakest (AKA Counter attack). Demichelis was weak and Borini definitely used that to his advantage. Borini played up top on his own for the first time in a Sunderland shirt and made himself first choice for that position after that performance. Lee Cattermole also put a massive shift in and showed why it was so important not to sell him in January.
However I digress, the point of the matter is that Sunderland played City the best way they could. We countered well and created great opportunities and defended brilliantly. We defended so well by either cutting their play off from in their territory or, if that didn't work, we built 'The Wall'. I believe this new defensive tactic of 'The Wall' is a great one by Poyet against bigger, and if we're honest, better teams. 'The Wall' consists of as many players sitting on the edge of the box and not letting anything through, forcing the opposition to either attempt and fail therefore regaining possession and counter attacking, go down the wings and try to win the header against O'Shea and Brown, or try a long shot and beat Don Vito. I think we employed this tactic against Everton and it succeeded because their long shots weren't good enough however Yaya Toure and Samir Nasri did have the quality and that's were I believe the risk of the tactic didn't pay off.
I think Poyet's tactical play is up there with the best in the league (I know I'm biased) and if we continue with this work rate and passion we are sure to stay up and get to Wembley again.
and to end on. WE DESERVED TO WIN!!!
