With Steven Fletcher's imminent return to action after a spell on the sidelines due to injury and Nacho Scocco's fitness improving all the time after he signed from Brazilian side Internacional, it seems as if Connor Wickham will get limited playing time with Sunderland in the near future.
Now the 20-year-old has joined Championship side Leeds United on loan until the end of the season as he looks to continue his football development. Leeds are currently 11th in the table but only seven points behind 6th placed Reading and will be hoping the England u21 international will be able to fire them into play-off contention.
Wickham has already had a highly successful spell on loan in the Championship this season, after he scored eight goals and got 3 assists in just 11 appearances for Sheffield Wednesday.
The striker's last appearance for Sunderland came in the 1-0 FA Cup fifth round win over Southampton, as he came off the bench with 20 minutes remaining and trouble the visiting defence from the off. Unfortunately despite looking a menace and getting into good positions, he squandered good opportunities after choosing to shoot when team-mates were better placed.
Hopefully he will continue his Championship goalscoring streak with Leeds and come back to Sunderland in the summer an improved player or at the very least will allow us to sell him on for a good fee.
