Sunderland's deadline day story was mainly focused upon a scrap with Stoke City over Lee Cattermole's future. Was there another team looking to take the midfielder, though?
According to a report in The Mirror, Serie A side Napoli were looking into the possibility of taking Cattermole to the continent.
I know, I know, it seems bonkers. Napoli are one of Italy's true glamour clubs and are very much in the hunt for Champions League football this season. An interest in Cattermole doesn't really appear all that likely.
However, when current Napoli boss Rafa Benitez was at Liverpool, he was credited with an interest in Cattermole very regularly, and the former Sunderland skipper's high energy pressing is a very nice fit with the Spaniard's tactical methods. May be not all that mental after all, who knows?
Basically, believe it if you want. It's an interesting story, regardless.
