Have you ever been playing with bubble wrap and you see what looks like being a really big, juicy bubble and you save it until last to be popped? Then, when you pop it, the air just kind of flops out the side silently? Well, if so, then you know what this deadline day was all about.
It promised a fair bit really. At times, loads of stuff looked like it was happening. But it didn't happen. In effect, nowt happened.
Lee Cattermole was not going, then he was going. Oh how we wept. Then, suddenly, he was staying, and Craig Gardner was going instead. Then Craig Gardner wasn't going either. Neither of them went in the end, leaving Stoke and WBA respectively frustrated.
There were some outgoings, but not ones that will be missed really. See below for a full list of deadline day movers:
In: Liam Bridcutt (Brighton undisc)
Out: Mobido Diakite (Fiorentina loan), David Vaughan (Nottingham Forest), David Moberg Karlsson (Kilmarnock loan), Duncan Watmore (Hibernian loan), Danny Graham (Middlesbrough loan)
So, like I say, all quite bland. The first team squad has been strengthened and keeping Cattermole in the end almost felt like making another new signing.
Could have been slightly better, but could also have been far far worse. We'll take it.
