Win big AND lose small

Well well well....

Evidently, my magnus opus was too much for most people to read, so I'll keep it tight.

Losing 0-1 but still solidly middle table (joint 12th) after one game a piece... And Newcastle solidly last!

It's evident that the powerhouses in the Premiership are looking to score goals and lots of them. Goal difference may well be a significant factor this year, so as well as winning by good margins, it'll be just as vital to lose by small margins.

Sunderland's pre-season match against City looks even more impressive in the context of the Newcastle opening defeat, but believe me, City will be looking to inflict this level of defeat against Sunderland for a non 'friendly'...

The game against Fulham was very interesting. The team does appear to be working cohesively. The attack is good but not clinical enough. The strategy is looking OK. I'm still not happy about the square pegs in round holes at the back. The loss to a 'set piece' is just silly and presumably rectifiable. I'm not worried for Sunderland's future.

I'm starting to think Wenger might be a good bet for first Premiership manager out the door:-)

Football... it's a funny old game.
