Gus Poyet has chosen to name a much changed side for his first cup match in charge of Sunderland, with seven changes from the side that started against Hull City - although three of those are possibly enforced ones. There are welcome returns for Celustka, Ki and Giaccherini who have seen limited playing time so far under Poyet, whilst Adam Johnson returns after his 45 minutes on the bench at the weekend. Wes Brown also starts his first proper game for Sunderland since January 2012 - here's hoping he can find some form and fitness!
There are also places on the bench for Cabral and Mavrias, another two summer signings who until now seemed to have dropped completely off the radar.
Sunderland (4-3-3): Vito Mannone; Ondrej Celustka, Wes Brown, John O'Shea, Phil Bardsley; Ki Seung-Yong, Craig Gardner, Jack Colback; Adam Johnson, Jozy Altidore, Emanuele Giaccherini.
Substitutes: Joel Dixon, Carlos Cuellar, Cabral, Seb Larsson, Charis Mavrias, Fabio Borini, Steven Fletcher
Meanwhile, Mauricio Pochettino has named a much changed side, with Southampton's usual starting XI given a rest in favour of more fringe players. This sees a return to first team action for (regrettably) ex-Sunderland man Kelvin Davies, as well as last summer's record signing Gaston Ramírez. Star strikers Rickie Lambert and Pablo Osvaldo are not even named to the bench, although Osvaldo has been carrying an injury.
Southampton: (4-3-3): Kelvin Davis; Calum Chambers, Maya Yoshida, Jos Hooiveld, David Fox; Jack Cork, Harrison Reed, Steven Davis; Gaston Ramírez, Tadanari Lee, Jay Rodriguez.
Substitutes: Paul Gazzaniga, Nathaniel Clyne, James Ward-Prowse, Adam Lallana, Lloyd Isgrove, Jack Stephens, Sam Gallagher
