O'Neill: Meyler Sale Will Be A Boost

Kiyoshi Ota

As Martin O'Neill seems to push David Meyler out of the club, could he also be hinting that players need to go before any can come in?

David Meyler's permanent transfer to Hull City seems to be dragging on a little bit but Martin O'Neill seems very keen to see the back of him.

Speaking to the Shields Gazette, the gaffer has said that once the transfer goes through it should help us out in the transfer market;

This is an opportunity for him, and it maybe also gives us some scope to use some of that money to try to go into the market ourselves.

Initially, he went to Hull on loan to get some games in, and he enjoyed it, and did fine there.

I'm sure that if David felt he could play regularly here, he would have liked to have done.

But at this stage of his career, and having come back from those two knee injuries, playing regularly is important to him.

It seems O'Neill is now dead set on Meyler leaving and would like to see it happen sooner rather than later, and he isn't part of any future plans at the club.

What's curious is how the gaffer insists that it will be a help in the transfer window. .Obviously we won't have billions to spend this window, or any window for that matter, but he seems very keen to get his hands on this £1.5m fee for Meyler.

It could of course be immediately used on Roland Juhasz or Alfred N'Diaye - both of whom are heavily linked with moves to the Stadium Of Light, and both of whom would command about the same fee Meyler will be leaving for.

The same paper is also reporting that Meyler has already undergone a medical at the KC Stadium, hopefully pushing the deal that little bit closer.
