The Premiership and British Players

I don't know how relevant this is to Sunderland in itself however I heard today that Newcastle are going to end up with nine French players in their first team squad, without counting their other first team members who are not British. I cannot help feel that their players can never understand or grasp the passion and importance of a derby game especially the one which Newcastle will be hosting in April.

The way things are going for them I feel like we are just going to feel we are playing a French club whenever we play them don't get me wrong not all of the French players will be inept to understand what this derby means to locals but I just don't think they will 'Get It' I am also going to try and connect this with how Sunderland are thinking of moving a few youth names on such as Ryan Noble and Roarie Deacon and in my honest opinion - Its a correct decision.

Ryan Noble this lad I thought had bags and bags of potential but has yet to prove it truly. His first spell for Hartlepool was mediocre in a Premiership standing point of view and I thought perhaps this season would be His time to make some first team appearances here and there and He never got it, Did O'Neill ever give him a chance? Despite that cracking goal during pre season He has proved He cannot cut it in League One and moving him on is important.

The second we can shift some of this academy deadwood means we can give some other youngsters a chance to play for the reserves and maybe get someone who is Premiership quality like Hendo or Colback (If you want to call him Prem quality of course) I honestly wish there was a rule in English football where you would have to field at least 5 British players every game this would encourage so much more youth development and even perhaps push more kids to try and play for their local clubs. It could also bring in a prospect of having a couple of Wear and Tyneside lads in the derbies, You know - Lads who care about the derbies because at points in our derby games I don't see many of our lads caring the game and what it means to our fans, they say "Its a big game for the club" but You don't see it in the way they play both on Newcastle and Sunderland's end.

I guess what I am mainly getting at is I hope O'Neill can get it into his head to get some of the U18s turned into First Team members I am not going to say that they are going to be the next Wayne Rooney or Lampard but at least competent enough to make our Academy look as half respectable as what Championship clubs such as Crystal Palace can offer along with Southampton and even Middlesborough. I honestly hope I will see something like this one day because seeing a young lad from Sunderland play in front of an audience He was once part of excites me more than bringing half a dozen lads from Paris.
