Benin 1-1 Ethiopia: Bad News For Sessegnon, But Great News For Sunderland

Benin won't be heading to South Africa in January after a 1-1 draw with Ethiopia leads to disastrous results.

Yesterday in Cotonou, Stephane Sessegnon and his Benin teammates could only manage a 1-1 draw with Ethiopia, meaning the Beninese are now out of the qualifying for next years Africa Cup Of Nations.

The results is bad news for Sessegnon and his teammates, but good news for us as it ensures that he'll be available for selection in January when the tournament is held in South Africa. If of course he stays with us.

As for yesterday's game in a wet and rainy Cotonou, Sessegnon did very well, grabbing an assist for Mickael Pote's opening goal after 19 minutes. The Ethiopians hit back however and equalised shortly before half time as Alula Mekonnen slid the ball beyond Fabien Farnolle.

Despite relentless pressure from Benin in the second half, including Sessegnon wasting a very good chance to put his side 2-1 up, no goal came leaving the side devastated to go out of the qualifying so early.

The result means Benin are now out of the qualifying for next years Africa Cup Of Nations in the first round as the 1-1 scoreline put Ethiopia through on away goals. This means no tournament for Sessegnon this January, which is quite handy for us, and potentially no game on the qualifying weekend in mid-October.
