In 1937, Sunderland beat Wolves 6-2 at Roker Park, but perhaps the most notable aspect of the game was the fact that Charlie Thompson was not in the Sunderland line-up. Prior to this game, Thompson had made 147 consecutive appearances for Sunderland - to this day a club record.
