Sunderland Take Haitian Keeper On Trial

Justin Edmonds

As all avenues are explored in the search for new talent at Sunderland, it looks as though some interest lies in Haitian 'keeper Steward Ceus, who has joined the club for a bit of training from Colorado Rapids.

Sunderland have taken another unheralded and relatively unknown on these shores player on trial as the search for new talent extends to North America.

Having taken Philadelphia Union midfielder Michael Farfan on trial last season, it looks as though the same sort of deal is in place with Haitian goalkeeper Steward Ceus, currently a backup at Colorado Rapids, on trial.

He tweeted out earlier today;

It's an interesting move that we're investigating into backup 'keepers. Keiren Westwood said in the summer he'd be leaving if he wasn't getting first team football, which would leave us with the talented but inexperienced Jordan Pickford as the only back up to Simon Mignolet.

Ceus arrives with little to no fanfare, so any move for him would be quite bizarre given he's only made three competitive appearances for Colorado Rapids since being drafted by them in the third round of the 2009 MLS Draft.

Ceus has been capped 7 times by Haiti, despite being born in the US.
