Sunderland Snap Up Scottish Striker On Short-Term Deal

After spending about a month on trial and waiting for a deal, James McFadden has finally signed for Sunderland on a short-term contract.

Sunderland today finally completed the protracted move for Scotland international and former Everton midfielder-come-striker James McFadden after the player agreed to a very short 3-month contract at the Stadium Of Light.

McFadden brings with him a wealth of experience, having played over 100 times for Everton across two spells, before being released this summer.

Still aged only 29-years old, the 48 times capped Scotland international made his name as a striker with Motherwell (with whom he also trained with this summer), before moving to Everton for £1.25m. Since then he has also played in the Premier League with Birmingham City.

More recently though injuries have hampered his game time, and he has been moved back into midfield. This is where he is expected to compete for a place in the Sunderland squad as behind this misfiring trio of Stephane Sessegnon, James McClean and Adam Johnson our options are sparse.

McFadden will likely be able to make his debut against Middlesborough in the League Cup this coming week, after signing a little to close for the game against Stoke City tomorrow.
